Brave (2012) Synopsis :
In a prologue, we see Lord Fergus and Lady Elinor in a forested area, celebrating the birthday of their young daughter, Merida. Though Elinor happily plays with Merida, she grows perturbed when Fergus gives the little girl her own bow and set of arrows.As Merida tries to hit a target, one of the arrows sails off into the forest nearby. Merida runs off and retrieves it, but soon encounters a glowing blue willo-the-wisp. Going back to her parents, she tells what she saw, and her mother explains that they can lead a person to their destiny.
Suddenly, the mood is broken as an enormous black bear enters the camp grounds. Merida and her mother quickly take leave as Lord Fergus and his men fight against the bear.
Time passes, and we see that Lord Fergus has lost his leg to the bear. In the time that has passed, Lady Elinor has given birth to three mischievous boys (triplets), and Merida is now a teenager. While her mother wants her to be proper, Merida is moreso intent on practicing arc.......
Goofs: Anachronisms: During the presentation of Princess Merida's suitors, one suitor is mentioned to have defeated a group of Vikings. Another suitor is mentioned to have defeated Romans. The Vikings did not enter Scotland until about 800 AD, almost 400 years after the Romans abandoned the British Isles in the 5th century.

Animation is spectacular, great setting in the Scottish Highlands.Voice acting is above par. However, this movie is not among the topPixar films, by far. I felt the sickening presence of Disney all overthe film -- weird politically correct preaching, overdone actionscenes, and generally random and weird plot.
The story is really disappointing. What exactly makes her 'BRAVE'??They should have named the movie 'PETULANT'. She's selfish, and theentire plot is about how she can get out of the results of herselfishness while remaining selfish. The magic feels out of place, lotsof wasted scenes, and the whole bear thing was just plain annoyingafter a while.
Not a lot of funny moments, and generally boring! I was really lookingforward to this movie, and I did not like it.

This film is very beautifully done, the artists, great job. Thestoryline was terrible. It was another balled up Disney movie thatseemed like it was just trying to fit in every single cliché and Disneytrademark as it could. It starts as it should, epic.
Then out of nowhere the epic Celtic music begins and the female vocalscome in. I immediately wanted to leave. The girl I was with, alsoseemed exhausted with this as well. It didn't need that, it made thefilm go from really cool to chick flick.
Little did I know, it was going to get worst. The trailer explained themovie as a hero rising, and the changing of fate. Who doesn't likethat. So she rides off mad at her mom, finds a witch and requests herfate to be changed. She is granted her wish and her mom is turned intoa bear. Yes, a bear. So the entire movie, basically is the main girltrying to mend her moms relationship and turn her back into a human.Well, that's not hard, because the love is already there. She basicallyapologizes and is sad about everything. and obviously, in the nick oftime, the sun, which could consequently keep her a bear, shines lighton the two and magically she turns back into a human (which isn't ascool as I'm making it seem). The plot was a total deviation from thetrailer, it made no sense, and it was more for little kids than theusual Pixar film, which for the most part is usually made for a wideaudience.
After the film, I couldn't leave fast enough. I hope people enjoy thefilm, I just didn't. Nor would I recommend seeing it.

I felt compelled to write a review to counter all the excellent reviewsthat this movie has received.
It is not excellent, in fact it is dull, celebrates disobedience andfeels like two completely different stories taped together to make upthe time.
I can't really see the point of the movie, young girls in Scotlandtoday (or the USA or even South Africa)are not forced to marry, in thetenth century when they were it was accepted and not the great dramamade out in the movie.
The whole movie reeks of feminist fantasy- wanting to live in aromantic Scottish medieval setting, sorting out mother issues andhaving modern rules and standards.
I found it disturbing that every male character in the movie wasportrayed as at best, big stupid and loving, (King Fergus) at worstviolent and evil (the bear). They only males given any intelligence inthe movie are the triplets, who are constant thieves, conniving,ruthless, destructive and very small! The basic story and message wasif you are a young woman with serious mother issues, don't worry. Dosomething really nasty to your mother, then say you are really sorrythen your mother will change her mind and you can have it all your ownway! Don't worry about any men involved as they are too stupid tounderstand what is going on.
A lot of this I could have forgiven if the movie did not feel sodisjointed, and in the second half frankly boring. This is not "How totrain your dragon" with a female lead (that would have been great) thisis a feminist Disney "Mother bear" done very beautifully by Pixar, withgreat voice acting but ultimately very unsatisfying.
