Astrix and Oblix: God Save Britannia (2012) Review by seercirra from england
I have not much to say but this film is horribly under-rated. It has nodark undercurrent, no social engineering (a rarity these days), it isjust light, laugh out loud funny, with good acting, cast, sets andstory.
I have not watched something this fun and innocent for a long time. This is far cleaner and leaves you feeling better than any Disney oranimated film i can remember.
Also there is none of that horrible Hollywood overtone where everythingis over done & there is no subtlety because the audience is assumed tobe morons.
People claiming this film promotes homosexuality (an agenda in societyi am very aware of and personally protest) have no idea what they'retalking about. The English dignitary was just inferring that Asterixand Obelix are homosexual because they live together, as a jibe.Nothing more.
Go watch it, have fun, feel good.
I hope they make another.
Astrix and Oblix: God Save Britannia (2012) Review by valadas from Portugal
The famous comics characters by Goscinny and Uderzo ride again, thistime impersonated by real actors: Obélix by Gérard Depardieu who makesan excellent imitation of the comics character and Astérix by EdouardBaer who doesn't look much like his comics counterpart. The storyportrays a pretended help asked by the Queen of Britain from thoseGauls that have been resisting for so long in a small village to theRoman invasion since now Julius Caesar has invaded Britain which heintends to conquer. It develops itself in a continuous series of gagsand funny situations with somewhat disguised references to politicaland social usages and practices of our present times. The dialoguesabove all convey those references on purpose which increases andenhances the funny nature of the respective scenes. For instance theQueen of Britain (performed by the great beautiful actress CatherineDeneuve) dresses practically like she could have dressed nowadays andwears a crown 100% identical to the present British Queen one. Somegags are very good some others not so funny. The special visual effectsare first class. The final musical show in the end is fabulous. You maygo to see this movie anyway with the assurance that you will have greatfun.
Astrix and Oblix: God Save Britannia (2012) Review by sashlewis1 from Belgium
I was so shocked by the negative reviews of this film on IMDb that Isigned up specially to praise it. I'm British, and I absolutely lovedall the jokes about my home country, including the music, which issometimes authentic and sometimes a sort of satire on British patriotictunes. I don't read strip cartoons, so I don't know how close to theoriginal it is, but it's excellent in its own right. The script is verygood - there's all the legionnaires' comments on illegal immigrants(and the satirised illegal immigrant himself is a joy),not to mentionCaesar's claptrap about civilising the barbarians. All utterlyauthentic ... And then there's the dreadful teenager Goudurix, who sayseverything dreadful British (and I suppose French) teenagers say anddo. Does it really matter if he hints Astérix and Obélix might be gay?the film itself makes it clear they aren't, and anyway, gays are good. And there are all the little details, like the 'Godax' - 'Dogax'posters at the rugby match, and the fish and chip shop in Londinium, and the in-jokes about how the British and French see each other. Ionly gave the film 9 because I personally don't like Depardieu, but hedoes his job well - oh, and the opening titles are awful and totallyunsuited to the film. But in general it's a joy, and it's a real pitymost Brits will miss out on it because they wouldn't be able tounderstand it.
