As part of the Willie Handcart Company, Levi Savage (Jasen Wade) feared that leaving late in the season would lead to despair and death. What he came to find out is that for every tragedy, there is a multitude of miracles.Levi Savage kept meticulous records as he made his journey west toward the Salt Lake Valley. Many of the unbelievable miracles showcased in 17 Miracles come directly from Levi's first hand journal entries.

Most viewers will be overwhelmed at the number of ordeals and miraclesthat are shown. Movies such as this instills a great respect to ourpioneers depicted on this film. "17 Miracles" is really a miracle. Thefirst few seconds are somewhat disturbing like a horror film but as thestories unfold, miracle after miracle will leave your heart with shockand awe The stories are beautifully written and they come to life inevery frame. It is not wholesome for there are thematic suffering andhardships that might offend children so parental guidance isrecommended. The lead actor who played Levi Savage is very good at theportrayal of his part. I Highly recommend it. We need more inspiringfilms like this in our homes.

For what this movie tries to do, it is completely successful. It is notmeant to be an Indiana Jones type of show. It is meant to tell a taleof many lives woven together by a life threatening trek based on faithand desire to serve God and be His people no matter the cost. In thissense I believe it is one of the best I have seen. If you are lookingfor intrigue or for a completely integrated plot line with the samecharacter's being followed up on throughout, it is not that type ofmovie and you won't be satisfied. The main character ties it together-but the others are all hit and miss. The point is that there aremiracles throughout based on faith in God and His mercy. That is theplot. I love it more each time I see it. And I see more each time Iwatch. If you have faith, you will love this movie.

T.C. Christensen's "17 Miracles" is something of a miracle itself. Anindependent film telling the true story of one of the most amazingpioneer migrations stories ever is beautifully written, directed,acted, edited and photographed to say nothing about the excellentmusical scoring. Produced for less than $1 million dollars it achieveswhat no amount of budget can necessarily buy: a spiritual honesty thatpays tribute to the people who followed their faith using woodenhandcarts to carry their meager supplies as they attempted to journeyto the Salt Lake City valley. While members of the LDS faith willmostly be familiar with the Martin and Willie handcart trek, most willbe overwhelmed at the number of challenges and miracles that aredepicted in this film. One can not leave from viewing this film withouthaving a greater respect for these faithful pioneers and a deeperreverence for our Father in Heaven. "17 Miracles" is my kind of motionpicture -- one that is an experience and uplifting. Highly recommended.If you have the chance to see it in a theatre DO! If not the DVD andBlu-ray are now available thru Deseret Book Company. This disc iscertainly a must to own! Addition: Just saw the film for a third timein the theatre and find myself even more impressed with it then uponthe first viewing. While all of the acting is outstanding specialmention should be made of Jason Wade who plays Levi Savage. Thishandsome young actor could be the new Robert Redford. He is a verysensitive actor who has great range and power.
